  • Tayberry, Buckingham. Any thoughts please.

I want to buy the Buckingham thornless Tayberry, but have read the RHS trial of this variety which says it has poor quality fruit and low yield.

    http://apps.rhs.org.uk/planttrials/T...02013-2015.pdf page 14.

This is strange as the RHS is selling this variety.

I have not found any thing else anywhere to substantiate this. Could the RHS have tested a rogue batch? What experience do other people have?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    Hi and welcome.
Found this old thread which isn't very encouraging! https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...ham_98673.html

Just cut mine back after fruiting.

Maybe it's the soil but I find it less vigorous, less prolific and less tasty than the thorny one I grew at a previous house.

I grow both and agree with the above - the thornless one is OK, but not as good from a fruit pov

I think mine is heading for shredder. Disappointing.
