Hi there everyone

I'm a newbie and I need as much help as I can get on the use of Polytunnels in the cooler climes of western Scotland where we have rain, wind and more rain!!!!!! Great for growing stuff - NOT! any help welcome.

Hello Karen from a damp, dreich Fort William. I adore Skye but don't envy you the midges - Skye midges are the most evil I grow most things - peppers, toms, etc it's all about picking the right type - chocolate peppers or purple peppers that absorb the little sunlight we get. Also the Grapes from the north of England are a wealth of info on what to grow in the damp and dreich. In fact there are a lot of clever Grapes on here.

I had a hol there donkeys years ago before they built the bridge .............is it now Skye or still the Isle of Skye?

Hi Karen
Although I'm on the east coast I'm about as far north as you are - you name it, you can grow it in the tunnels if not outside - my tunnel this year has successfully produced loads of cukes, tomatoes, chillies, aubergines, scallions, lettuce, spinach, chard, dwarf french beans, beetroot, early cabbages, CCA salad leaves and early courgettes.
Outside I have grown potatoes, cabbages (all sorts), cauliflower, kale, broccoli, PSB, tiurnip, swede, onions, carrots, peas, broad beans, courgettes, kohl rabi, beetroot, parsley, rhubarb, chives, brussels sprouts - all on a very exposed site.

Hi Karen! Just a tad south of you on the Isle of Luing - not quite so wet as the misty isle, but getting that way. You'll find plenty of help here, lots of wise and generous grapes.

Welcome You'll find lots of info on the site - use the search. The fellow grapes are friendly and very wise. We are moving over to the west soon, and I am worried that my poor veggies won't cope with all the rain!

Moulds and midgies will be your fate...in a polytunnel you may escape the first but never the second I fear ! I'll bet your most important gardening product will be a good midgie repellent....but you should find you get on great with growing all sorts of stuff as long as you keep the tunnel properly cleaned.
