  • Advise for planting fruit trees NE Scotland

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can offer any advise for planting fruit trees in the NE of Scotland. I have a large garden and would like to plant a variety of fruit trees. As I am a complete novice gardener, i was hoping someone could offer some sound advise and if there is anyone in the area who has experience maybe meet up when it is safe to do so. Appreciate any advise anyone can offer. Thanks, Iain

Hi Iain, I'm in NE Scotland too, big problem is our weather and it can vary so much, I'm coastal and only 100 metres above sea level so very different from a few miles inland where very low temperatures occur. Frost is going to be your biggest enemy hitting the blossom and also scab is a big problem round me, I have just felled three apple trees because of the severe scab problems making the fruit inedible. I had a long chat with one of the guys at the Garden Centre in Banchory, he seemed knowledgeable and may be of help to you.
