  • Passionate Composter

Hello everyone, I'm Carrie and I love composting!

I have an allotment with my husband, started this year from a green field site, kindly handed over by our council. It started in April and since August I have been blogging about it. It truly is an exercise in Ecotherapy - I have had my life on hold for the past 10+ years due to chronic depression and anxiety disorder. The plot has helped to get me out there and talking to people, I have a positive interest and I get to communicate with people from all over the world about a shared passion. I also get relief out of blogging away and to not put too fine a point on it - this has literally saved my life. The mental health services here in N. Ireland are shockingly poor, this has been the best thing since finding the right meds.

Give it a lookin' at at

    Hi Carrie!

I think you'll find that you get more sun out at the lottie and the exercise is great for depression and anxiety too! Welcome to the Vine!

Welcome Carrie. Growing your own is the best. I'm also a passionate composter - I get truly excited when I open up the bin and find barrowloads of this amazing stuff which is going to grow my next veg! And I honestly believe it's the best every therapy, absorbing physical work, in the fresh air - excellent stuff!
And then when it gets too dark there's the Vine!!
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

You LOVE the compost too, I knew there were other addicts like me out there! It is so exciting to make such good quality stuff for free.
You are so right about it being a great therapy, the time passes so quicky if nothing else, and there is less time to wallow in your own problems.
I have found that I am slightly addicted to forums now as well, is that bad?
              Thanks for the welcome

Hi Carrie G, a warm welcome to the vine. I'm also a bit of a forum junkie when it gets too dark to garden and this is one of the friendliest I've come across, so just drop in whenever you feel like and enjoy the banter.

You are so right, I was just saying that; it is one of the friendliest. It's great to have places like this to go to when down or you want to do some lottie work but can't. Your tag line made me laugh, but I do prefer my dog's bark to my own!

                        Welcome Carrie
Getting out and about will do you no end of good, and the exercise will make you fit and hungry to eat all that you grow.
Enjoy the vine, it's very friendly and knowledgable.

Thank you for the welcome bobleponge. How right you are about the lottie giving me a good appetite and I think I have a few more muscles, at least ones I didn't know I had regularly hurt a bit now!
This seems like one of the nicest forums, have to say it again.
