  • Mornin n’alln’all
Another extremely mild start to the day.
I’m just about to have a cuppa - do help yourselves.

Is anyone doing anything special for New Year?
We were invited out for a mega meal tomorrow with 12 other people but we’ve declined. But it was lovely to be included.

I guess we’ll have a nice meal on Saturday instead

Not sure yet what today will involve but I’m sure my OH will find me something to do

Glad to hear Mrs Rary is improving.

    • Morning all. Thanks for the tea, Nicos, very welcome as always

No New Year plans here, except to take down the decorations as usual. Then I feel the old year is really over.

        • Morning all.

Glad to hear Mrs Rary's on the mend.

New Year's plan here is to start the diet... What fun. Before that though, we have a duck to decide what to do with. Mr Snoop picked it up yesterday. It weighs 4 kg! The last one was barely over two. I'm a bit outfaced by a 4 kg duck. It's the size of the turkeys they sell here! I was going to freeze it whole, but it's too big to fit in the freezer. So I might have to joint it, which seems a shame but there you go.

Did my fruit tree planning and will be visiting a nursery today to see what they've got and whether they've got any advice on suitable trees for our climate conditions. I've looked up trees for cold climates and they pretty well match what I want. I was thinking of a sloe tree, but looks like two might be required for pollination purposes. So I might go for another pair of cherry trees instead. Looks like the birds will be in luck...

Right, better get me skates on. Have a lovely day, everyone.

          • Morning all, not a lot happening today, I hate this period between Christmas and New Year.
Glad to hear Mrs Rary is on the mend, sciatica is an awful thing!!
Still no sign of Snadger, hope he is ok!!
Enjoy your day everyone, catch you later.

            • Good morning all, dull and grey here.
No plans for the day, just pottering.
No plans for new years eve either as the virus is rampant.
We have a wedding next month so we are being really careful.
              Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

              • Good morning all. We actually saw the sun earlier but it was only a fleeting appearance.

No idea what we're doing today. I suppose I should do some housework but the thought is hardly exciting.

Snoop just a word of caution, (though you may well know) if you go for Blackthorn bushes the thorns are highly poisonous, if you get a thorn stuck in you you need to get it out or it will turn septic, washing the wound with surgical spirits helps or if nothing else avaliable I would wash with vinigar, but then I wash every wound I get with vinigar🙄

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                      • Morning all.
The rain has stopped and it looks as if it may brighten up, I see one or two gaps in the clouds. It's very mild too. I'm beginning to worry I may have to feed my bees, they'll all be up and about and there's not much forage near them.

Thanks, Rary. I'll bear that in mind.

As it happens, we didn't get any trees yesterday as the nursery has closed down. Shame as they were really good specialists. Phoned another nursery and they said to wait till 15 Jan, as they'll have more stock in. So, trees on hold for the moment.
