  • I'm hiding from the heat. I've just watered some rather droopy plants. The sun was obviously beating down well before I surfaced.

I'd got Mr GF an appointment with a Dr of his choice yesterday as he is now really having memory/confusion issues. The Dr has now ordered blood tests and, after a "simple" 6 question quiz, referred him to the "memory clinic". He has had hearing aids for a few years now and he is really happy with his current ones. When I originally took him to the doctor about his hearing the doctor booked him for an appointment at the surgery for a couple of weeks later. (The hearing specialist has a clinic there regularly). He got his hearing aids at that appointment. The aftercare has been very good too.

The only problem I have with our doctors is ringing up to get an appointment. I could not get through to book a blood test yesterday. The phone battery went dead before I get through. In the end when I went to the filling station to get petrol😭😭😭 (aaaarrrggghh! Second mortgage time) I called in at the doctor's surgery and booked one for Monday at reception in a couple of minutes.

My mission today is just to keep COOL🥶

    • Fingers crossed Mr GF is OK, greenishfing, just a water infection or something like that.

Big hugs to you, you too, Jay22.

Me, I'm off for an afternoon nap now. Can't keep my eyes open.

Apart from a bit of early morning shopping and gardening I’ve been hiding indoors catching up with my reading.

Jay that’s good news about MrJ it must take time to get back into doing the ordinary things we take for granted xx

I hope the Docs can give MrGF the help he needs.

Don’t blame you for talking a nap Snoop it must be roasting we’re you are.

Keep cool and enjoy your afternoon

        • Afternoon !

Well tis pretty hot here but we have a lovely breeze so I can’t complain.

My daughter sent me a photo of my granddaughter in a paddling pool I gave her last time we were over. I guess it’s going to come in really handy over the next few days!
Its actually a folding dog paddling pool which has anti claw strengthening. I bought it for the camper. However, French customs decided to open it - with a Stanley knife and slashed right through it
So they sent me a replacement and I had that one spare and asked if they fancied repairing it with waterproof tape - and they have!
They live on a farm so the fact it doesn’t look sweet and pretty doesn’t really matter - it’s just nice she has the option of playing in the shade in cooling water, and if the dogs choose to jump in with her then it should be tough enough to cope

            • Good night all.
We went to the rose festival and had a lovely day.
The temp was just in the low 20's so wasnt too hot at all.

Yes, Lottie, you're right about the hearing aids, I just need to get used to the idea.

Nicos, lovely for your grandaughter to have the paddling pool.
I remember filling it up for our grandkids, where does the time go,

Snoop, I dont think I could survive in that heat, a nap is definitely needed.

Goodnight all and stay cool and hydrated.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                • Morning all.

Thanks for the sympathy votes, guys. It is hot. But fortunately the house stays relatively cool, though it's starting to warm up too now as well. Drinking lots of iced water, unsurprisingly.

You're right about the courgettes, LD. I've got just two plants on the go this year and we're consuming everything they're producing. Everything else seems very slow, though. The brassicas are struggling with harlequin bugs and that is holding them back. Nothing will eat them, apparently, as they taste foul. Did spot a couple of large wasps inspecting two this morning but that was as far as it went. Insects I am used to spotting but have seen next to none of this year are spiders. Not a one in among the tomato plants, which is very unusual.

Had company from a very young robin this morning. A first for here. Not just watching at a distance but came with me down into the fields too. Kept a watchful eye on things as I planted beans out where the potatoes came out the other day. I reckon it's had the raspberries, but I don't begrudge it. It's very small and its feathers don't look too good. I leave water out in several spots but not food, as there is plenty about the place, seeds and assorted beetles. Anyway, fingers crossed for it. The smiles liked seeing it and gave it a friendly chirrup. They also enjoyed seeing all the bees over the bramble blossom and headed off in a jolly mood again.

Plenty to be doing for the rest of the day. With any luck, I'll get to tie up at least some toms if not all of them.

                  Have a great day, everyone.

                  • Not a very good night's sleep here, tossing and turning and waking each other up, but then at about 7am we both managed to drop off and never heard a thing until 10am and I actually feel rested now.

It never really cooled off last night properly. All the curtains are now tightly shut against the sun and the blackout ones that I bought for the lounge around Christmas and that I moaned about non stop, due to the very delayed delivery, are doing a great job. I'm so glad I didn't let my tantrum get the better of me......and send them back. In fact I've just realised that all the creases did eventually drop out without any help.

I did fancy a car boot sale today but at 6 am, due to lack of sleep, I could not get any enthusiasm together..... maybe next week.

                    Keep cool everyone!

                      • Afternoon n’alln’all

                        Just put me mop away

I had intended to nip to a massive vide grenier nearby earlier but it’s too hot to be bothered now .
We sat out in the shade of our magnolia with a brew watching the birds, wasps and hornets visiting the bird bath. One blackbird was clearly desperate but just too timid so we’ve come inside to give him space.
However - we did spot 21 swallows all lined up on our telephone cable . I’m surprised they didn’t burn their feet on the hot wire!
I imagine they must be 3-4 nests of fledglings with their parents?

keep cool and hydrated everyone! ….*hands out icy cool glasses of local chilled pear juice. I would have floated a couple of freshly picked strawberries in each of them but , as you know, Mr Hare has stuffed his not so lean anymore belly with them.

We’ve got a through draft so the house is nice and cool.

It’s odd how sounds carry there’s some donkeys a couple of miles away and it sounds like they’re over our garden wall.

Chilled Lemon balm here it’s refreshing and makes a change.

Sat out under the sunshade and read my book.
Daughter and grandson called in the afternoon.
Just sparkling water with ice and lemon this afternoon.
A glass of red with my ham salad.

OH put up a parasol over our french beans this afternoon . Their leaf temp was 30C in the sun. Doesn’t bode well for growing tips does it

hope peeps sleep ok in this heat. See you in the morn.
