Pears are easiest because the natural shape fits the bottle better. I have seen photos of trees with bottles tied at all sorts of odd angles for them to ripen.
I wonder if a face mask on a pumpkin would work.

    Interesting Q
    Never thought of that.

The most exciting thing I’ve done with growing veg is to score names into growing courgettes. As marrows they look very impressive!

I’ve often thought about growing an apple or pear inside a bottle, but not tried it. I’ve seen them in liquor bottles in shops.

Pictures on apples - actual pictures

When our kids were little we used to have them fasten negatives (old fashioned silver B/W ones, not color) to unripe apples. As the apples ripen the picture gets transferred to the apple. The silver (dark) bits shade the sun and so stay green and the clear bits ripen red.

    Some worked and some didn't.

Bigger negative the better, and choose contrasty obvious images.

    Might work on tomatoes too.

[edit] I seem to remember one of them tried it on skin in sunshine. Strange girl
