Can you remember earlier this year someone said about growing sunflowers from the bird seed?

I did and this is where they are at now. The heads aren't massive, but the tallest one is about 6.5 -> 7ft tall.

    How did yours do?
Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

You have a little while to go to beat my record.....15.5 feet....

Used to grow a row of them down our garden fence, yellow giant variety, plus also some red sun flowers which produce multiply flowers, not as big about 8 feet but look great.

        Yours look great.....nice one

awww...............your sunflowers are bigger than mine

We have planted 10 and named them all and are having a competition to see who gets the tallest - none of em are taller than 6 inches at present - though we had to keep replanting cos some pesky aminal was eating em..........!!

They have been treated too well.

I feed them on rotted manure and seaweed juice and they have also had a little chicken pooh and more recently a touch of bat guano (sample).

They don't not like the proper ones that I always remember having flowers the size of tea plates. But they was 'pot luck bird seed'.

Dark red sounds exotic, I want some.

They looks nice, I will keep my eye out for some of thems. very posh, my neighbour had some tulips that colour.

I am using organic seaweed juice this year and it seems to serve well and apparently you can do a foliar spray feed with it too.

i have loads of other black flowers too i planted ,poppies, violas, pansies, hollyhock, aquilegia, cornflowers, bat plants, sweet william, sweet peas, and bird of paradise, plus a couple of dark red and purple flowers for a bit of colour lol

it annoys the hell out of the neighbors, they can't understand why i can't have pink (spits) flowers like they've got and why i want banana and palm trees, rather than some pretty pink shrubs .... i think they wanted a "normal" neighbour lol ....... when i moved in every flower was pink ...... i'd dug them all out before i even finished unpacking lol

theres some sunflowers here ... cant be bothered trawling round plant sites when ebay is so easy lol SUNFLOWER - Black Magic 10 seeds on eBay, also Annuals Biennials, Plants Seeds Bulbs, Garden Plants, Home Garden (end time 18-Jul-08 21:14:27 BST)
