  • Seedling ID - knautia macedonica?

I started lots of seeds in trays late last summer to get a head start with potting on and some stronger plants for this year.
I've got a couple of trays with no label - they've obviously not done that well, just a few seedlings starting to put on some growth. They all have prop lids on but in amongst some weeds I have a few strong seedlings.
I wanted more knautia, so I am hoping these are them. My garden ones haven't started yet and I really can't remember what I put in there...weeds or something nice?

It looks very familiar. But I don’t actually know what it is.

Same here - that's why I thought it could be a weed.

      # last year I nurtured some ground elder in pots!!

It looks prickly like borage,i would have it down as a flower of some sort, not a weed.

Scarlet, is it some type of primula?

And when your back stops aching,

You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I get why you think that -It does look like one but this is much to small - maybe 3inches at the most.

I sowed knautia in the autumn and they came up ok, but one by one they have popped their clogs over the winter. I'm not sure they looked much like your photo though. Might it be an ecinachea?

Definitely not echinacea. I rarely grow them as they need to be treated as annuals here. They don't seem to like my soil and weather. They never return.

                        Sorry - I thought I had replied!

Thank you. They definitely look very much the same - mine are a little smaller than yours I think. I've potted them on now
