  • Plant ID please

It's my turn to ask for ID help. This plant (the middle one) appeared in my wall early this year and I don't know what it is. I thought it would probably be flowering by now and I'd be able to identify it from the flowers but no flowers have yet appeared. The leaves are larger than they look in the photo - they are about 8" long. Now a smaller one has appeared in my new border and I don't know whether to keep it or weed it out.

The leaves are like Honesty. If it is, it'll flower next year.

Yes...I think I had the same earlier in the year. I have quite a bit seeded

I asked the same Q. Here's my photo

I did wonder about honesty when it started growing but as the leaves got bigger and bigger I became unsure about it. Also I haven't noticed it in any neighbours' gardens. Do birds spread the seeds? If it is honesty , I hope it will be purple-flowered because I've just sown some white-flowered ones so they could compliment each other.

Scarlet in that thread you've linked you said you were going to move it. Did you try and was it successful? I wouldn't attempt to move this one out of the wall but maybe the one that's in my flower bed. The funny thing is, I saw your photo at the time and immediately knew it was honesty (but it was flowering so that was easier.) I didn't reply because others had already id'd it.

        Thanks, everyone.

Tough as old boots! They pop up all over the place here. The seeds are very light and blow about in the wind in their little silver space ships.

The plant in the flower bed, which I thought was the same, isn't. Can anyone identify this one?

Did you ever see dandelion type flowers before the leaves? Are the leaves a bit furry underneath? Maybe Coltsfoot?
It looks like a weed anyway....

I think we have a winner with Coltsfoot. The leaves are very white and furry underneath. There weren't any flowers but presumably they come in year 2 - the plant has only appeared this year. Sounds like it can be quite invasive but can be used as cough medicine. This blog suggests controlling by cutting off all leaves at the base, so I think I'll try that and see if I can use them (if I ever get a round tuit.)
