Having just collected an envelope full of perrenial poppy seed i need to know when is best time to sow them and how?

I have always sown Poppy seeds of this type in early spring, but you could sown some now and some then. Being such tiny seeds they need to be scattered very thinly and not covered. I usually cover the compost with grit and sow on top of that and then gently waterso the seed is washed between the grains. This works just as well with Vermiculite or Perlite whichever you prefer. They do not need any heat.
Only warning is to avoid planting out in rows in a nursery bed to grow on to flowering size. We did that and are still trying to get rid of the unwanted ones now, after 5 years of Roundup! -
Thanks for that Palustris. I have a few borders and patches of ground that need sorting out and these poppies would be ideal.Comment

I only have two things to add.
1) Poppys germinate better on freshly tilled ground.
2)As poppy seeds are so small mix with a good proportion of fine dry sand and scatter.
PS seeds can remain dormant for some time.
