Lupins outside?

Lupins are hardy plants. Mine live outdoors all year. Most are also perennials so you'll get them for several years. I've sown some annual lupins this year for the cut flower border - check your packet and see which you've got. Either way, as soon as they're big enough to be let out on their own, bang 'em in!

Watch out for the slugs and snails- they love baby lupins

You can also get a massive blue-ish lupin aphid. So big it's quite gross to squash! Soapy water does for them though. Slugs don't eat mine oddly enough.

But if you've had them indoors be sure to harden them off first

Thanks guys. I dont know if they are perrenial or not as they were donated seeds, but i'll see what they say.

Lupins only flower in the 2nd season, the rootball gets really big but you can plant them in the B&Q terracotta pots that are a �1.00 each, they should be big enough i have lots growing from last season which are huge right now but its all vegative growth.

ps, you can harden of the lupins right now as we speak, they can take extreme cold weather, mine have been outdoors since last season when i germinated then in small pots outdoors so they can take extreme weathers..
