  • Hydrangea suddenly all gone limp!!!! :(

    PLEASE HELP!

I have a lovely lace flowered hydrangea in a large pot that has suddenly gone all limp.
I have had it years and had no problems until now. I checked that I had not overwatered or underwatered and that was okl so I am perplexed.

Could it be the work of the dreaded vine weevil?!

The only way to tell if it is vine weevil is to tip the plant out of its pot and check the roots for those horrid white grubs.
However Hydrangeas are very susceptible to wilting if they lack water so it would be wise to double check it is not too dry first.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

My moneys on lack of moisture. Once a potted plant dries out it is very hard to re wet it and the water just flows straight through and around the compost without actually wetting it.
Stand it in a tray of water and see if it takes any up?

The first two answers are most likely to be correct, "hydrangea", after all, means "water vessel".

Cheers for the feedback. I have just taken it out of the pot and checked for vine weevil
No sign thank God. Repotted in bigger pot with some slow release feed and homemade compost.
          Given it a thorough watering.
          Fingers crossed!
