  • How do I grow plugplant perennials?

Just received a special offer from Thompson & Morgan of 36 plug plants,
Bellis, Echinnacea, Leucanthemum, Verbena, Gensymum. The instructions
say pot them in 3” pots, but are rather vague about what to do next.
They’re sitting potted in my potting shed now, do I keep them inside all winter
or put them out once they’ve grown some?

Pot them up as instructed and give them a little protection from the winter rain. In early spring the Bellis can go in when they have grown a bit but let the others grow on until about May when they should have grown into larger plants. Protect them from slugs especially the Echinacea.
Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

“give them a little protection from the winter rain”
Thanks for your reply. Sorry to be dense, to me, ok, you’re saying keep them outside.
How would you give them this protection?
      Best Wishes,
      Pete

What condition are they in and how small are they? It'll be useful if you can post a pic of these so then we can gauge what they're like. I'm not a favour of these things as I've a friend who got an offer and found 3/4 of them didn't survive the winter as they needed a lot of mollycoddling as they were so small and fragile. He had his in his unheated greenhouse. I think out of the £30 he spent on 72 plants only about 10 survived. The following year, he lost most of them and I think he's only got the geum that survived now.
