  • French Marigold

How much does it spread, please, and how tall does it get?

I had planned on planting some at the edges of beds at the allotment, and I've grown some which are teeny 3 inch plants at the moment but I saw some the other day that were huge- thigh high. They may not have been marigolds though, I know nothing about flowers!

As far as I know, French marigolds don't grow very tall and certainly not thigh high. Calendulas do though, they are a kind of marigold but French marigolds do not grow very tall at all.

French marigolds grow half the height of African ones...I think you must have seen African ones- (they grow 2-3feet in the ideal situation!!!)

I wouldn't have thought you'd seen African marigolds this early in the year ... they were probably English (pot) marigolds, although they're normally knee high
