  • forced indoor bulbs

I planted 12 indoor Narcissis sp? bulbs in a pot around November time and kept them in the dark with regular watering until mid December. They had about 6cm of leaf when I bought them out. Now they have about 15cm of leaf and look as if 9 of them are blind. Any ideas what I did wrong, dont want to make the same mistake next time.

This is a tricky one, Stella, non-flowering of indoor bulbs could be down to several reasons - from undersized bulbs (i.e. too small to produce a flower), to bringing the pot too quickly into bright light, to underwatering, although it sounds as though you have taken care of this one.

I think the only real answer is to make sure you buy 'mature' bulbs in the first place. Just a further thought, though, the packet they came in should have stated a flowering period, which with narcissi could be any time up to March - it's possible they may still flower!

Hi thanks for your help. I think the ones with long leggy leaves probably will not flower they look like blind daffs (sort of long and wispy and thin). Others may though as they look a bit more plumpsush. I think you may be right about the qualitity of the bulbs as they came from a 'sell all shop'
