    Can anyone tell me what this is? I find it very pretty but it does grow like a weed about the place

    It's purple toadflax. Closely related to snapdragons (as you can probably tell from the flowers).
    It's a perennial and self-seeds quite easily.

        Botanical name is linaria purpurea.

        I love it. It does seed itself around everywhere here but it’s not difficult to pull it up if it’s in the wrong place.

        I tried to grow it (the pink variety Canon Went) when I lived in London but it wouldn’t grow. Maybe it prefers acid soil?
