The foliage is "feeding" the bulbs for next year's flowering.If you cut it off completely you may not have too many flowers the following year.

Hi Tracey, I wondered about this and then went round to my mother in laws and saw that she folds (loosely) leaves in half and ties them. They look much neater, take up less space and she gets lovely flowers every year. Simple but effective -why couldn't I have thought of that!

I do like Daisybee's Mum and give them a feed with something at the same time - whatever you have. After a couple of weeks the foliage will have rotted and you can just lift the clump and take it away.

I prefer not to tie up - it looks so unnatural. My preferred way is to plant my daffs amongst other things - for example hardy geraniums, day-lilies and astrantias - so that the leaves of the latter disguise the daff leaves quite effectively while they decay to feed the bulbs.
Works for me!
