    They don't all have eyes on though, so only the ones with eyes on will grow.

    Yes, but you need some "eyes" on each bit.

    But you can take cuttings from the tubers in the early days. Taking a piece with the tuber attached. They flower in the same year, do as well as the tuber and you can take many off one.

    Like a potato tuber then?
    You can tell I didn't look very closely at the 80 or so I had. Bits broke off and I assumed they'd all do something, eventually.

    I grow lots of dahlias but only from seed packs.
    No named varieties so just a mixture of them all.
    I have a couple of named varieties but cant find the labels any more.

    I will be trying "some purple ones", and possible "some other ones".

    I had no luck with them last year or the year before. They got slug-destroyed in 17, so I started them in the greenhouse, and then they grew but didn't flower last year.

    I might buy some new ones.

    when do they need to go in?
