Hi, anyone with a bit of knowledge of Strelitza Regina ( the bird of paradise plant) I have grew these from seed a number of years ago, seen it flower for the first time ( after a five years wait) beautiful flowers alas I left that plant in an unheated greenhouse over the winter and alas it succumbed to frost, shame. My problem I need advice for, Is, I have again grew from seed another of this plant, four years now, fed it, looked after it kept it indoors during winter months, for whatever reason this year, all the lower leaves started to turn yellow on the tips then shrivel, this seems to be travelling up the plant affecting all the leaves, I think I am going to loose this plant too, any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance fellow growers.

Have you got any photos Mags? Have you kept it too near a radiator? Somewhere where it's getting cold and draughty at night and then too hot in the day?

Have you repotted it recently? It's the only thing I could think of, that it might need.
I used to have one but I couldn't bring it with me when we moved because it was to big for our new place. I still miss him, that was 8 years ago! ( I'm completely mad by the way )

Sorry got no photo's, have the plant in a my kitchen, this is well ventilated when missus is cooking, kitchen around 55-60' at night, so not temperature related. Think it may be systemic, actually in the plant?

I know nothing about them, but, the original one was in the greenhouse without warmth and plenty of light.
This one is in the house with warmth and possibly no light.(unless your kitchen has a glass roof or grow lights fitted)
It may recover given light(it doesn't bode well), but I would sow more seeds every year, just in case.
Feed the soil, not the plants.
          (helps if you have cluckies)

Check that nothing is eating the roots, thinking of vine weevil or something similar
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Know about lack of light, the plant was only put there for a bit protection over winter, intended to put back in greenhouse around May/ June with shading around plant, so as not to scorch the leaves etc. alas, reckon the plants gone to the compost heap in the sky haha.

Thanks, these plants are best kept on the potbound side, this encourages flower production, shame really, these are quite magnificent flowers when they do eventually flower, well think I might have to get some more seeds, prob be pushing daisies up by the time I get another to flower haha.

You are so lucky you had one that flowered, i grew them from seed nearly 10 years ago and still waiting for a flower, i have been thinking about getting more seed i like trying to germinate tropical plants, that will be another 10 year wait to see if i get a flower
