  • When to put Chillies in the greenhouse?

Someone was overly eager to get the Cayenne s germinated this year, so they have been growing since the start of January!

Now they are getting much to big for their 7cm pots. However, i have nowhere to put them if i were to transplant them! The window sill has many other young types of chilli/pepper.

I hear mid May is when it is warm enough to put them in the greenhouse. Is this true. I don't think they can hold out that long unless they stop growing!

We have been getting very good weather recently, but i don't know if that wil hold, and there is always the fact that the greenhouse doesn't get as much sun this time of year...

    thanks!

    Thanks!

Mine went in last night under fleece. If really cold weather is predicted they will come back in for a while. Perhaps start putting a few out and keeping a few in until you are sure they will survive.

My gh is a minimum of 8c at night (this week), but my baby chillies are still indoors on the windowsill, where there's more light (until the sun gets a bit higher and makes it over the trees)

I have a massive greenhouse (well it is actually a single glazed conservatory that we need to replace when we can afford to) and I have had my chillis in there for about a week now but we have had good weather recently. I have even been putting all my plants out on the patio on the really warm days.

thanks for the fast replies! I'll get them in there soon. Just going to hold off for another month or so so the sun can get a bit higher.

ive got quite a collection in the gh now for about 3 weeks
allraised in heated props and under grow lights indoors until established then banished to the gh to earn their living
all in 7cm square pots in seed trays and covered in plastic prop tops and laid on bubblewrap base to stop cold from below and double layered 36gsm fleece and bubblewrap during colder days and evenings..on especially colder nights double heaters
