  • What to do with Whitecurrants?????

I have always grown whitecurrants and always eaten them straight from the bush as a tasty treat!
Not to break with tradition, I have just purchased a strong potted plant of White Versailles which I will find a place for in my lottie!

Main question is, what else can I do with these flavoursome soft fruit?

Quite topical just now as used with the turkey dinner, probably the only time in the year I eat recurrant jelly! Normally eat redcurrants straight from the bush as well............How about whitecurrant or redcurrant schnapps?

Are'nt white currants just a sport of red ones and cooked and cultivated in the same manner?

They have a completely different taste to redcurrants and to my mind are more akin to grapes! I think the cultivation is the same though, in fact, I have just bought one of each and if they weren't labelled I wouldn't have a clue which was which at this time of year as they look exactly the same.

Like redcurrants they can be grown on a single stem into a standard which looks interesting. Might give that a go with a few cuttings I intend taking next year!

I don't know whether it's because the flesh is opaque, but whitecurrants always seem to have bigger 'pips' than redcurants also!
