  • Walnut Trees

I know they are not fruit but couldnt find a section for nuts !!!
I have got three walnut trees in my garden - they are ALL feral - not planted just grew there - one is in an Ok place so can stay but the other two are actually now catching in the telephone lines and one is dislodging tiles from the garage (barn ) god knows what the roots are doing. They both produce quite good nuts.
So these two have got to go!
OH wishes to have them cut back completely but i wanted them pollarded (no but yeah but)
i have heard that walnuts hate being messed about with so could die back in any case......
any body got any ideas ...i cant keep them they lean over the road and are just in the wrong place - i can grow some more when i clear my land

Sorry, can't help you with what to do with them but I would love a walnut tree in my garden.

Do you know how they started? did they just arrive as if by magic or did they come from a nearby tree?

If you happen to find a seedling that you don't want .........

We think they have must have grown from nuts dropped by squirrels. They werent there when we bought the house in 1991 or at least we didnt notice them.
the biggest one is on a tiny strip of land which we didnt actually buy until this year.
I think you can buy saplings in Gamm Vert or other pepinieres. I'm going to grow some on my other piece of land once its cleared to replace these two, looks as though they can grow to full size in 16 years!
