    Too late for Rasperries

    Is it too late to plant Raspberries?

    I saw at my local garden centre that they are selling Raspberry bushes, but then read online that you are meant to plant these in Autumn, is this correct? Or shall I gleefully head of to the centre and purchase some?

    go for it but mind the ground conditions when planting out. Just heel them in till you can get at it if needs be

      Have moved our old ones today and replanted. Should be OK as they are dormant.

        when buying them what should i be looking out for? i.e hight or have much have they be pruned etc...

          They are bare rooted canes at the moment. Just pop them in to final place or heel in to pots of compost with a bit of JI mixed in.

            Raspberries will be fine to plant for several more weeks - but I recently happened to see some potted ones (presumably bare-root but in a pot of compost) which looked a bit dry and might not survive - raspberries are quite fussy about being out of the ground and/or too dry for too long.

              With raspberries, do they have to be grown against a fence for support or would some canes in the ground be enough support?

                They don't need support, although I train mine against wires. Predominantly to stop them getting too messy but lots leave them to just do their thing!
