  • Tall Lime?

    Hi all!

Was wondering if I could get some advice, I have a small lime and its growing very well, but only upwards! My lemon however has lots of side growth. Should I snip off the top of the lime to encourage it to grow more bushy? I'm scared to in case it doesn't respond well!

    Thanks

I don’t know much about Limes but if it was mine I would pinch out the tip and hope it would encourage it to produce side shoots.

Snipping the top off should work fine. You could do that now or leave it till it gets to 3-4 feet and then pinch out the top, clear most of the stem and have a nice little standard.

Usual citrus caveat - you'd be very lucky to get a seedling to flower or fruit.

Pinch it out. Citrus actually respond very well to pruning, even fairly hard pruning.

Thank you all for your replies! I've snipped it off now so hopefully it'll start to bush out over the next few weeks - I'm wanting to keep them all fairly small and not expecting any fruits for a few years. Theyre just a fun addition to the conservatory
