Talking of rasberry canes, can I.....

    Talking of rasberry canes, can I.....

    ...make a hedge from them and when's a good time to transplant them into the hedge position? Should I clump or single file cane?


    (I know you're waiting for me to ask you plant them for me too, seens as I've asked everything else but I recon I can do that bit)

    They make quite a good hedge, but could do with some support. Whether you plant in clumps or singly is up to you, really - even if you plant singles they will form clumps eventually. September is supposed to be a good time to plant, but if you have some spare and make sure they don't go short of water you could get away with doing it now.

      I have just ordered some new raspberry canes and they are being delivered in Nov, so presumably that is a good time to plant.

        I'm planting them along side my chestnut paling fence so one side will be supported which is more than the ones on my veggie patch. I guessing I'll have a go at moving them mid to end of Sept. Last year I got a second crop early sept and looks likely again this year. They love it here - shame I'm not that keen really!!

        Cos I'm not worried about the fruit I'll probably be a bit mean with them, they seem to be OK with that so far....

          I am trying some Polka this year.

          They are an autumn growing crop and you need to keep the canes at 5 feet.

          They are supposed to make a good hedge and crop twice in a year.
