  • Strawberry

There’s probably lots of threads on this already. So sorry if that’s the case.
Has any grown strawberries from shop brought fruit?
I’m assuming you run the same risk as with anything. It being an F1 or a cross and not producing the same as you were expecting.

Just wondering if anyone has. I’ve never noticed anyone mention it. It’s a possible plan for future gardens

SP I can't find any vine links on this but I did come across one giving advice on growing strawberries from seed.

    https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...eed_96183.html

might be handy to read until someone comes along who has grow from actually strawberries because there's bound to be someone.
    Location....East Midlands.

I have grown from packet seed with no problems(alpine variety), should have thought it would be ok, most supermarket ones are from usual plants you can buy, Elsanta is one I believe. I prefer the French ones I grow in the greenhouse for flavour, not huge croppers, but perpetual, so you get a long season, not many of mine make it to the kitchen lol.

Thanks VC. That’s what I wanted.

I’ve grown strawberries from packets of seed before. The alpine things grow like weeds if you give them a chance.

After my success with a slice of fresh tomato, I may be tempted to slice a few strawberries into a pot and see what happens.

Brilliant. I like having a playmate for my hair brain ideas .
Next time I’m on the main land I’ll get a punnet of strawberries. After most have been tested for flavour by Bob because I don’t actually like the things , I’ll slice and plant. I might try collecting seeds in the same way as you do tomatoes, in a water bath type thing.

I saw summat on the web where they grew all sorts of things from fresh fruit and veg. Like filling half a melon with compost and seeing what grew actually in the melon.
                Can't remember the website though.

Or just lightly burying half melon to see what happens?
