  • Spraying peach and plum trees

    Hi
I was advised by my father in law to spray my peach and plum trees around now with Bordeaux mixture. But a quick Google says it's illegal. How should I be caring for my trees both now and for the rest of the year?
    Thanks
    Tom

Bordeaux mixture is a fungicide and in the case of Peaches etc it was used to help prevent "peach leaf curl" by spraying at this time of year - "peach leaf curl" is much worse in damp conditions so one way round it is to cover your trees with some sort of temporary roof if that's practicable - other than that you probably have to live with a bit of the disease , what I do is to pick off infected leaves and bin them -- you can make your own version of Bordeaux mixture at home, but I wouldn't recommend it as its a lot of faff and requires quite a bit of care when handling.

I don't know why you would feel the need to spray plum trees but in regards to peach leaf curl in peach and nectarines I spray once a week until the leaves are completely out with a homemade oregano oil/salad dressing diluted in water and remove any particularly badly infected leaves.
