  • So excited !

We moved into our house July last year. Among other trees we inherited what we assumed was a plum tree (but no fruit last year). This year we saw small fruits forming and had been waiting for them to grow and become more plum like. We were practically ignoring them as they seemed a long way off doing anything. Then this w/e OH bought a punnet of greengages and then the penny dropped as they looked so similar.

We have just been up the garden at 7.30 and picked and done a taste test and comparison. And yes. They are greengages and ours are sweeter than the shop bought punnet.

20 mins later we have harvested a large saucepan full.

Tips please for greengage recipes. Many thanks

How fantastic, I don't think I've ever tried a greengage. Hope you find lots of recipes to make good use of them.

Yes great OH is working his way through the recipes suggested. He has made some jam and also a crumble so far. The gages are very sweet and tasty and such a bonus that we did not expect.
