Thanks for posting that VC. The economics are what has driven the decline. Competition from foreign fruit and even from south of the border simply killed off commercial apple growing up here. However, thats not to say that apples are not grown in Scotland. I even have a couple of trees

Same in Wales, AP but there are efforts being made to keep alive the old varieties here too.

All the apple trees I planted are Scottish Varieties and specific to the West Coast. I have a large discovery tree that cropped really well this year and the Scottish varieties are just starting to bear fruit - just a few this year. Many orchards were just abandoned. There are several growers specialising in Scottish Apple Trees but the pool is reducing year on year, not helped by cheap European German stores and pound shops.

There should be a selection of Apples and Pressing of apples at the Scottish Small Holder Festival
Sunday 28th October 2018 at Forfar Mart. The full events list is still to be published.

Not Associated with the event. - May well go
