    I think my fridge wasn't cold enough because I went to graft a load of apple trees yesterday and found that all my carefully sourced scion wood had started to grow. This made it totally useless for grafting. Woe is me!

    Oh well. I'll bud graft them in the summer instead.

    I'm no expert but if you have enough maybe it's worth trying a few bits anyway. Just make sure you save enough for bud grafting later.
    I've just grafted a load that Mel sent me and one of those had huge buds on it. I grafted it anyway but made sure it was whip & tongue grafted so if it failed it wouldn't leave a big scar on the tree. However, my side/ wedge grafts on young tree trunks won't be too clever if they fail.
