  • Raspberry planting

    Today i got my new rasps,joan j,amonst the instructions,it says they like acidic soil,mmm,i never knew that,i have a new bed all ready,with lots of rotted manure,so what suggestions,and advice have you got for me please,or is this i bit over the top,
    sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of these

    Don't tell mine, they're all planted in my usual alkaline soil.


    They're shallow rooted, so you could give them a mulch of leafmould every year

          what will they love AP,the rotted pony poo,i hope so,there is a lot of leafes at present,sittting outside the lotty gates,so i will give them a nice blanket for the winter when the weather allows me to plant them,

              Agreed. Rich, moist but not saturated soil is paradise for raspberries.
              I've never seen raspberry plants suffer from leaf scorch due to over-feeding (although I'm sure someone will have managed it). Most other fruit plants seem to scorch much more easily than raspberries.

                thankyou very much for the confidence boost,we have more manure to put on top after they are planted,and before the leaves mulch,hope i can get down this next 2 days,or i will have to heel them in the ground,just till next week,
