  • Quick question about strawberries

I'm growing a variety called Sarian (it's an F1). Will I get fruit from them this year, and if not how long does it take?

You'll probably get flowers and fruit forming this year but it's usual not to crop new plants in the first year to give them time to build up a good root and a strong plant. Being an F1 shouldn't affect this. It's just about the way it has been bred. Heartbreaking though it is, you 'ought' to nip off the flowers. Hard eh?

You'll get more next year if you do as Flum suggests....and then you'll be pleased you did!

(letting just one develop on the strongest plant might be rather nice though )

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to end up with four or five plants, so I might pick fruit off one of them and be good with the others

I'm having the same dilemma. I've got twelve plants, though, so I reckon six might have to sacrifice their goods this year!
