  • Prolific strawberry variety?

Have just bought one of those plastic raised planters from Lidl for the purpose of growing some strawberries. The size of the planter is about (80x40cm) growbag size.

So what would be a good variety of strawberry to try that gives a good crop and how many could I plant in the container?

Cambridge Favourite have always done well for me. I've tried some everbear varieties - Flamenco and Albion - without much success

I have a few on the go Elsanta, Elan and Symphony but won’t know till this season as only got them last year. Elsanta made loads of runners if that makes any difference?

Elsanta is the most common one grown commercially, lots sold in the shops in summer, so you can guess they are going to be good croppers. I have 5 different varieties to give different crops and flavours.

I think we had some everbear ones a few years back. Smaller crops but some very late appearances were welcome. If they are up high, they’ll be less bothered by the autumn slugs? Will be interested to know how you get in with them.

I think the main problem was not being able to protect them from Mice and Slugs on my allotment, if you're growing at home you may be able to protect them better. Hopefully.
