  • Planted my rasberry canes today

    Hi

I just planted my rasberrry canes today, 6 joan j, 6 glen ample, 6 glen moy.
They are planted in a single row about 18 inch apart. I used plenty of well rotted manure when planting them and have put a mulch of old wood chips.

I still have to plant my strawberrys and am wondering if I can plant them in the gaps between the rasberries?

Interesting, I would tho it depends on how you've got your raspberries planted. If in 3 rows of 6, only plant them on the outer margins. I've got spare strawberries growing in my raspberry beds and they're doing just fine.

They are in a single row of 18, in a bed that is about 2 foot wide.

hey crich, I would stick with the margin then, maybe three runners on each end? Because Raps are hungry feeders, and their roots stick nearer the surface and span wider - thus taking up root space. Also strawbs are also hungry feeders, so they'll compete if they're inbetween the rasps'.
