  • Peach tree scale

    Hi there

Autumn 2014, I noticed that my greenhouse peach tree was looking a bit sickly, did not fruit well either. On closer inspection I found that the branches were covered in scale insects. I picked and rubbed as many off as I could find over a week or so. It has flowered profusely over the last couple of weeks and many fruit look to have set.
Yesterday, I noticed that the scale insects had returned in numbers. This time, when I rubbed them off they were obviously live insects as my fingers and hands were covered in insect goo. I have looked at their life cycle on-line. They seem quite difficult to get rid of. Anyone got some advice, please?
I recall the Beechgrove Garden team removed a tree once because of a similar infection.
Peach tree is 10 years old, planted in border and I live in the West of Scotland.

    Regards
    Terryr

Spray with oil solution, neem oil 1 teaspoon in litre of water, tiny drop of dishwash liquid to make it mix, or horticultural oil used the same way, dont spray in strong sun and repeat every few weeks a few times and it will kill them

I suspect spraying is the only realistic option.
Just depends on what you want to spray with = Organic or Inorganic.
