  • Is my young Victoria plum tree about to die?

    Hi All,

Is my young Victoria plum tree about to die?

I bought a potted Vistoria Plum from a local graden centre at the end of last year (it had some leaves on it).

Repotted it into a large pot, and fed it some fish, blood and bone at some point in very early spring.

Only one flower appeared in March. Buds started to have some little green tips of leaves, then it just stopped.

The branches are still bendy and I noticed a seeping wound where a small branch had half snapped. Without any knowledge of what I was doing I made a clean cut lower down on a larger branch (which itself had already been pruned further up). The sap
is now dripping out of this larger cut.

Whilst I dont think the cuts have done any good, it looks like the lack of leaves issue was present before that occurred - certainly my bigger cut was only done a week ago.

I'm guessing the seeping sap means its still alive, but is it too late for this tree?
Should I do nothing and just wait to see if it grows leaves...?

    Any advice most appreciated.

Seal both wounds (after trimming any loose bits off) asap with wound paint and hope and prey that it doesn't get silver leaf.
It will hopefully recover once the wounds have been dressed and its given tlc
It could take 1 or 2 years to bear fruit
Feed the soil, not the plants.
    (helps if you have cluckies)

Something's not right. It should be in full leaf by now.

Did it get enough water earlier in the year? Plums are very thirsty trees and most people underestimate how much water a potted plant needs.
