  • Moving fruit trees

    Hi folks

I've bought 3 bare-root apples, a pear and a cherry from Morrisons (couldnt resist the price) but can't plant them into their final positions yet. Can I heel them into one of the beds for now and move them later without damaging them?

    Thanks ...
    Cheers

Yes you can, or put them in pots.
I moved from one allotment to another last year and moved all my fruit trees when I moved, they had been in the ground over a year and they are all starting to come into leaf now.

Beware Greeks bearing gifts, or have you already got a wooden horse?... hehe.

Thanks crichmond. I don't want to put them in pots coz I'm a bu****r for forgetting to water which is why I wondered about temporary planting in the ground.

I'll bung them into the soil tonight (fleeced to combat the snow!) and leave them in until next year.
      Cheers
