  • Melons!

I didn't plan on growing any but in the early part of the year I kept getting these seedlings appearing in my raised beds - at least 50 or 60 of them, so I presumed they were weeds!!! However when they just kept coming I decided to take 2 out and pot them up just to see what they turned into....as you have probably guessed it was melons!! It eventually dawned on me that the compost I filled the beds with had melon seeds in it - it was home made compost.

Anyway now I have my first melons appearing and about another 3 or 4 flowers on each plant and I wondered if you guys had any advice on what I should be doing?

    Thanks in advance...

    Wow, accidental melons!

    Are you growing them indoors?

Goodness knows what's going to grow next year out of my home-made compost - I can't even think how much stuff I've put in there!

Actually, come to think of it, when I started digging up my garden I knew literally NOTHING about gardening at all. I found a few potatoes in the ground that were a few years old, but I put them in the composter so knowing my luck the compost will become full of potatoes!

I wish I had your luck, trying to grow melons for the first time this year already lost 1 and the second looks like it's about to give up to.
