  • Melon problem

I have some Minnesota Midget melon plants growing well in the greenhouse - have been pinching out the growing tips to get side laterals.

However, my plants only seem to be producing mainly female flowers, so i've got nothing to pollinate them with - anyone had a similar problem?

Shame we don't live closer isn't it?

I have MinnieMidgets too but can't remember what flowers they have. I think I saw a teeny little yellow fruit yesterday. Oh, and I'm not near either of you to share my flowers

I'm having a similar problem this year. My melons are absolutely full of flowers, but I've only seen one male flower so far.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
          Pumpkin pi.

Looks like we're having a shortage of melon man parts!!

Would it be possible to use any male flowers from plants in the same family - cucumber squash courgette etc?

This is the last problem I had last year. I only got a few females flowers at the end of August.
The poor melons didn't even time to ripen but grow to the size of a tennis ball.

                  Melon Joy

I spoke too soon, poking about in the greenhouse early this morning, I've found a girl flower.

                  I've pollinated her now.

                  Here's hoping.
