  • Marauding Parakeets

Last year all my immature figs disappeared so hung cds in tree.

This year put fleece over tree after finding some figless stalks.

They are now also attacking my apricots. I know it's them as nothing else could have sheared though apricot stones.

Any ideas please as to how to parakeet proof my fruit? Also have apples pears and gages.

I'm watching one do acrobatics on my window feeder as I type this!

I've not seen them take figs (or other bigger fruit) before and there are lots of fig trees on our site. I'd guess netting if the trees are small enough.

Maybe it's not so obvious if you've lots of figs trees. If you go to Kew Gardens you can see the havoc they wreak with the sweet chestnuts. I know from keeping cockatiels that parrots will attack vegetation for the sheer hell of it.
