    Help Save My GrapeVine!!!

    Hi everyone, new member here, Ive searched and searched but cant find an answer!

    Theres a grapevine in my garden, it been there since before I moved here so more than 20 years

    Unfortunately it doesnt look good, theres the main stem going up but this is all woody and ive never seen it grow a new shoot

    New shoots grow out from the base regularly but never seem to get a grip on life

    is there anything i can do to get this grapevine flourishing again?

    I would be really glad just to see more than 20 leaves on it at any one time, let alone bear fruit!

    A healthy vine cut right back to the stock (woody bit) should have produced an abundence of new growth by now, and I can only guess that this one has some kind of viral disease or damage to the root system to be in such a poorly state. I would think about removing (and burning) it. If you want to replace it I would re-site or at worst replace a large amount of the soil just in case it is an infection.

      Did you take the photo in the dark? or is it trying to grow in a very shady area, which i would'nt think is right ?

        Are the leaves distorted with blisters when it has them?

        Could have phylloxera..

        Grapes should be very vigorous, shouldn't matter a great deal if its in a shaded position.

            Are you also growing organ pipes? You'd get good long carrots in them maybe?

              A grape vine that old and never pruned should look like a tree. They grow so fast you can almost see them do it. If yours is really that poorly dig it up and get rid of it.
