  • Goji berries

I bought three goji berries year before last, they fruited this autumn quite well but I hated the the taste and plan to gve them away. I shall put an advert in our allotment trading post offering them free ito be dug up, - what is the best time of year to transplant them? I really want them out of the way soon to use the space.
    Thank you.

they should be ok if dug up when frost has past and planted straight away, when you advertise them leave a mobile number for the person who would like them to call you to arrange collection this way you can arrange dig up and collection at the same time (this way your there when they take the plants so they dont take anything else by mistake) they are quite hardy by now but id still advise picking a dig up and collection time where there isnt likely to be any bad frost for 3 days to give the plant the best chance to settle in. there from the himalayers so are very tolerante of our climate.

I was going to purchase some. What do they taste like? Can you cook them to taste better?

I got some from a health shop to try & didn't like the taste either, for some reason it reminded me of tea which I hate. BUT I use them all the time in healthy muslei flapjack bars which I make for lunchboxes & mixed with assorted seeds oats & other fruits, you cant tell they're there. I did plant the seeds from 1 and have got 1 healthy little plant which is now about 8/9 inches. I'm hoping it'll take off this year having been planted out late summer & overwintered under a cozy plastic bottle- I looked yesterday & it was covered in buds!
I would suggest before giving them all away that you try some in cooking- add to jams buns (I'm planning goji muffins with the first crop as I've found I can stick allsorts in & the family love em!)
Even I dont like the taste but in my muslei bars even my fruit allergic hubby enjoys- just dont tell them the ingredients
