  • Given Raspberry, Gooseberry and Blackcurrent

    Hi
We've been given some fruit bushes last weekend, we planted them the same day they were dug up. Should we prune to approx 2" above ground as we've just replanted them or should we just prune the old canes?

I think I would prune all top growth down to around 2 - 3 inches to give the plants a chance to get settled. Good luck.

You won't kill them at this time of the year by pruning off top growth. Main thing is to make sure that they have enough water at the roots to establish themselves before the winter (don;t drown them though)

I pruned my red and blackcurrant bushes right back when I bought them last year and all are thriving. The only down side is you won't see any fruit on the first years regrowth.
