    Fruit Cocktail Tree

    As it is coming up to the ideal time, I fancy having a go at growing a fruit cocktail tree. I have Plum, Apple & Cherry but am unsure of which to use as the main tree. Will all 3 grow together on one tree?
    As always, your advice is gratefully received.

    I know nothing about this really, but I can't imagine that an apple would be compatible with a plum/cherry. Different pruning requirements for a start.
    An apple and a pear, or a plum/apricot/peach/cherry maybe?
    I'll be very interested in the expert's answers!

        It won't work. But you can get plum, peach, apricot, almond, nectarine on the same tree (eg St Julien A). And a Quince, Pear and Japanese Pear on the same tree.
        In theory, you can use maythorn as rootstock for most of these plants, but the fruit will not be edible.

          Thanks for the reply, if memory serves right I thing there was a discussion a while back. Am I right in thinking that different variaties of plums can be grafted onto one plum tree.

              Thanks VC, think I will just get a few branches of different variety plums from other plot holders and try grafting them onto my plum tree.......they will have 2 options........live or die.
              After reading up a bit more I can't do it till spring anyway when new buds start showing. For some reason I had November in my head.........Must be an age thing.

                I went on an apple grafting day some years back. Tried grafting about 6 little trees, only one survived but this year its fruiting. I'm so proud of it

                  I almost gorilla (see what I did there? :P) grafted an awesome apple trees branch onto a wild crab apple - I was late doing it, so I sent some scions over to a member here.. I'm hoping that they've grown well for him, so I can have some wood back to complete the grafting I was planning on doing

                    I konw someone with a generation tree. He grafted another apple variety onto the same tree, one variety for every grandchild. He has 17 varieties one rootstock
