  • Framberry and Pineberry

Now I was looking into growing something different this year and happened to stumble across this link: Buy pineberry and framberry pineberry and framberry 'collection': Delivery by Crocus.co.uk

Appears to be Framberries and Pineberries, looks tempting but not sure about the price :/ anyone had any experience with either of them?

    Pineberries.

    I really didn't rate them
To be fair, I got them as runners from a friend, not from a shop, but they were rubbish. Hard to tell when to pick them because they always look unripe. They went from tasteless to mush literally within an afternoon.
Also, they didn't keep at all well. No good for lunchboxes, they disintegrated within an hour or two of being picked.

I only grew them for the novelty factor and they didn't cost me anything....thank goodness for that! I'd have got the right hump if I'd paid. Never again.

    Edited to say FORTY QUID???
    Reduced from over a hundred?
    No no no no no!
    They're having you on mate

For forty pounds you could get a nice fruit tree to give fruit for a lifetime!

I have some Pineberries and agree with muddled's opinion of them. Can't remember where I bought them but it was one of those 6 pack modules - sure to have been less than a fiver or I wouldn't have bought them. I'd rather a proper strawberry.
Never seen a framberry but the photo reminds me of an alpine strawberry - not very big!

I got framberries last year- I got them end of season for £2 for a pot which promptly produced a mass of runners. The last few fruit tasted pretty nice to me, but the slugs absolutely worshipped them, so I think I got one intact fruit, despite being in a pot off the ground...

They're bigger than alpine strawberries, but still far smaller than the normal ones.

They're really not worth that kind of money, but maybe worth a try if you can find 'em cheap- hey, if you're passing Bristol, I'd probably be able to give you a few runners; my plant produced so many, I think I still have spares

And I've got something 'strawberry like' popped up as a volunteer where the pineberries were...can't guarantee it's a pineberry but I'll gladly oik it out and send it to you if you like then you can them for free!
(it's coming out anyway and easy enough to post)

pm me if you want it.

I have pineberry anablanca and framberry red dream they are ok but as everyone else says stawberries are still superior. I can send runners at the end of this season if you are still fussed or interested (I have already removed last years sorry)

If you really want something like pineberries just buy a pack of james wong "white soul" alpine strawberries from Suttons. You can have about 200 plants for £2. They basically taste the same but are smaller and more hardy.

I dont think either really taste like pineapple though, just like cucamelons dont really taste of lime. I'd describe it as a sour and boring strawberry. I just use mine for cover crops between plants I actually want to eat

I have the framberry white-dream, and unlike most of the fruit growers come up with for marketing purposes rather than taste (i.e. the pineberry) I think they are wonderful. A seriously ripe framberry will beat the best strawberry in my opinion. I have about 50+ framberry plants intermixed with a few types of strawbs. I can never remember which are which until fruiting time.

That all being said about framberries being great, I'd recommend find them somewhere else for much, much, much cheaper.

Did you get the plant then Mark?

I sent it first class Wednesday morning so it should have reached you Thursday or Friday at the lastest.
