  • Extending My Strawberry Season

I want to extend my season of strawberries and I was after some advice as to which varieties to get.

Last year I bought twelve Cambridge Favourite plants and liked the fruit but we were eating more when picking them than we were taking home

Also, can anyone recommend a good supplier please?

Apple Tree: Are you hinting my apples aren't what they ought to be?
Scarecrow: Oh, no. It's just that she doesn't like little green worms!

I find that after 2 weeks in June I'm sick to death of strawberries (they produce more than we can eat)

Surely not TS! Strawberries only come a close second to raspberries for us. We cant get enough of them!

Plus I want to have a go at some jams this year. Last season it was just "plant and hope for the best" season as we only got the lottie in April

I was getting ripe fruit (only one or two mind) in October. No idea of variety though, they are inherited mongrels

I want some late ones too this year - reckon I'm going to try Florence.

I've just strained and bottled my strawberry vodka - with the fruit (now soused!) popped into the freezer so I can decide what to do with it.
My strawberry plants always throw up a few flowers over October and mild November days - I wonder if a cloche and a paintbrush to pollinate would work?

              Strawberry vodka ......... mmmmmmmmm!

I was thinking about going over to Ken Muir Nurseries as its not far from here. Does anyone know whether the prices are any cheaper than online?

I like the sound of Gariguette and 'Mara des Bois' - has anyone grown these?

Over the last few days I've potted-up some rooted runners into containers in the greenhouse. Hopefully the extra protection will give me a crop a few weeks before the outside plants.
