  • Ebay bargain bundle

Last year I decided it was time I had a shot at growing some Blueberries. I had a look around and found an Ebay seller who was doing 3 assorted plants for about £14 (can't remember the exact figure) . A few weeks later I was mooching round B&Q and came across a discount Goldtraube (labeled Verve) for about £2, so I got that too.

Anyway I decided to pot these plants on this morning in to larger containers - they've all grown on fairly well, but of the 4 the B&Q one has made the least amount of new growth.

So if you do see offers on the Internet, it isn't always the case that the cheap ones are bad bargains - sometimes you do get a good deal.

It remains to be seen if I can actually grow some decent fruit of course - its going to require a dedicated set-up, as my soil here is limestone based, but at least I'm off to a reasonable start, with some healthy looking plants.

I've never had much luck with blueberries, finicky things keep dying off.
The price of the bush has no bearing on this whatsoever.

I brought a Goldtraube and Patriot from B&Q last year at a similar £2 each. The Patriot is doing much better, so maybe Goldtraube (had lovely autumn color) is a weak grower or they were badly sourced by B&Q

That occurred to me, so I did a quick check before posting, on Goldtraube - which was described on several sites (rightly or wrongly) as a strong grower. Mine doen't look terrible, but it has put on less than about half the new growth of the other 3.

I was very pleased with the Ebay ones and the B&Q plant looks about like I'd thought it would.

did a quick Ebay recky for you VC - found one UK seller offering 3 x 9cm pots blueberry bushes for £14.00 only snag being that they were 3 of the same variety, but as they list several different types on consecutive adverts, you could try emailing them to see if they'd do 3 different ones. :-)

You could try one of the local roundabouts if you can't squeeze them all in to your garden - put on a high-vis vest and pretend to be a municipal worker if anyone asks :-)

PS never expected to come across anyone more mental than I am myself, however credit where its due ...

I'll squeeze them in, never fear. The 12 little trees I bought last year don't take up much room.

Looks as if you will be eating fruit all summer long :P

Where did you get all of them from if you don't mind me asking?
