  • dividing strawberry plants.

I have been taking runners from my strawberry plants which are all in container.
Was looking at them today and some look as if there are more than one plant in the clump.
They are 3 year old and have done really well.
My question is, can they be lifted and separated, and if so when is the best time, in the autumn or the spring.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

They probably could, but 3 years is good going for a strawberry plant, and it's generally recommended that they be replaced after this, either with new bought-in plants or with your own rooted runners.

When you have successfully taken runners, should you chop off remaining foliage and leaves etc to discourage more runners growing?
