Hi there,
I grew Merryweather at one time. Couldn't fault it in Central Scotland. Be a good thing if there was a pollinator nearby. I got all my top fruit from Deacon's in IOW. Had the pleasure of visiting them too. Nice people and good stuff. Get it on Pixy rootstock: it's a vigorous grower, in my experience.

Merryweather is a good all purpose damson, or so I'm told, which is why I have two on order

Next question you have to ask is what rootstock you want; dwarfing (pixie) or semi-dwarfing (St. Julien) would perhaps be good options.

I always think it's best to go to the specialist, even though it's a bit dearer. Especially for something as long-term as a tree. But you pays your money.... I suppose.

I agree with you Berr. We always get our fruit bushes from Ken Muir but they can be pricey.

When I went looking to order my damsons, the only place I found with merryweather on pixie rootstock was Parkers. Might be others suppliers with that around too, of course. As for choice, well, I don't mind saying that I had to fight to keep other things from dropping into my online basket

i bought a merryweather last year ,on ebay, and it was �7.99 if my memory is right,it arrived well wrapped,in good condition and it has now doubled in size(about 4ft6ins when delivered)we may get a few damsons next year, but i was looking at it yesterday,after my young victoria plum tree bit the dust,and it is looking really strong and healthy,not even any marks on the leaves,i might order another one to replace the defunct plum(not in the same spot),it came from n.ireland so it was already used to our climate,warm rain and cold rain.....
